Re-Imagining Company Logos: Expedia
0

Occasionally when I get an itching for doing something creative but I’m not quite sure I have a solid concept in my head, I will simply take an existing company logo or brand and give it a fresh look.

My only goal when I do this type of quick work to get the juices flowing is just a simple and clean design for the company in question that you could see them potentially using! No weird or way-out-there designs. Just sticking with what they’ve already established. Pretty simple, right?

“…using existing color is important because it could very well make or break whether a brand can be recognized.”

This process has always helped me solidify my skills and gives me a mind filled with ideas, as the company’s existing branding helps to automatically limit the scope. This makes it easy to approach and allows you to not run yourself into a corner trying to come up with ideas conceptually.

Generally speaking, I stick to the company’s existing color scheme, but companies do occasionally change things up so I don’t completely eliminate color changes if it flows with my design. Using existing color is important because it could very well make or break whether a brand can be recognized. Could you imagine a new Facebook logo without the blue background? Or perhaps Coca-Cola without it’s signature red label? You can see something as simple as color is sometimes vital to an existing brand. People will look for the colors they know.

With all that out the way now—the company I chose during my latest logo endeavor was Expedia, the very well-known travel company. A larger version is shown in my Portfolio under the Graphic Design & Illustrations section.
